Meet Dr. Scott Folkman
Dr. Scott Folkman grew up right here in Layton, attending East Layton Elementary, Central Davis Jr. High, and graduating from Layton High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology from Weber State University. He later graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where he received multiple awards for his clinical skills and abilities. He then received his specialty certificate in pediatric dentistry from the University of Florida, and is board certified as a Diplomate with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Folkman’s education included advanced and specialized training in dentistry for children and adolescents, persons with special needs of all ages, and medically compromised patients. His residency also included extensive and rigorous training in sedation, anesthesia, growth & development, and orthodontics.
Upon returning home from a two-year LDS mission in North Carolina, Dr. Scott married his childhood crush, Kara Stevenson (a Layton native) in 2004. He loves spending time with his wife, three sons, and two daughters playing sports, watching movies, and hanging out at Bear Lake.
Dr. Folkman is also passionate about autism awareness since his second and third sons were diagnosed with autism several years ago. This experience has helped him develop a greater respect and connection with children with special needs and their families. Dr. Folkman is excited to be back in his hometown, and has enjoyed working closely with local schools and organizations as a sponsor for multiple PTA’s and charitable events throughout Davis County.
Dr. Scott thinks working with children is the best job ever, and wants to make sure they are happy and having a positive experience at each visit. His wife will tell you his sense of humor is better suited for children anyway. . .
